29 March 2023

In early March, the PSA ECN hosted a half-day Environmental Politics Workshop for PhD and early career researchers. With the support of the PSA Environmental Politics Specialist Group and four very generous respondents, we were very excited to be able to provide this excellent opportunity for informal and friendly peer review in an accessible virtual space.

After receiving many fantastic submissions for this event, four ECN members who were selected to present their work at the workshop. With the broad theme of environmental politics, we heard about everything from knowledge use and financing at the World Bank to forms of green republicanism and climate populism. The various approaches of our participants and respondents made for an eclectic space with vibrant interdisciplinary texture.

As we held the workshop online, we were able to welcome researchers to the half-day event from far and wide – with participants calling in from South Korea, Turkey, and a wide range of towns and cities across the UK!

We would like to thank our wonderful respondents for reading the four papers submitted to the workshop and providing generous, friendly, and rigorous feedback on them:

  • Dr Ashley Dodsworth (University of Bristol)

  • Professor Neil Carter (University of York)

  • Dr Peter Eckersley (Nottingham Trent University)

  • Dr Darrick Evensen (University of Edinburgh)

We would also like to congratulate and thank our participants for presenting their work at the workshop:

  • Gülşen Doğan (Koç University)

  • Basak Erhan Cingir (University of Exeter)

  • Dr Juneseo Hwang (Sungkonghoe University)

  • Dr James Jackson (University of Manchester)

We really enjoyed hearing about our participants’ very innovative and exciting early career research on the topic of environmental politics at the half day workshop.

We would also like to thank our friends at the PSA Young People’s Politics Specialist Group for their advice and support in organising this day. Many thanks also to Dr Mitya Pearson and Dr Heather Alberro from the PSA Environmental Politics Specialist Group in supporting the organisation of this event.

Following the success of this workshop, we are certainly hoping to organise similar events in the future. And, indeed, if you want to get involved and have an idea for a future workshop in mind – absolutely get in touch with us at ecn@psa.ac.uk.

We’ll see if we can make it happen!
