Black History Month is here. Black histories and the politics of race are always with us. As the headlines on elections, government policy, and even the climate crisis tell us, they are never not relevant. But October provides the opportunity for us to engage in deeper reflection and conversation with the diverse Black heritages, histories, and horizons built by the scholars, activists, and frontline communities across and beyond Britain. A great way of doing this is through reading!
So, in this blog post, we have curated a collection of Black History Month reading lists, giving you a kind of master reading list! In each reading list, you will find a selection of speeches, critical essays, historical analyses, and even videos which problematise and explore histories and futures of race, colonialism, and Blackness worldwide.
Whether you are a student, educator, or researcher, these resources will enrich your exploration of Black history and its relevance today. Happy reading - and remember to share your favourite reads with your colleagues, friends, and networks. Sharing is caring!
