The Political Studies Association (PSA) is delighted to announce Dr Rose Gann as its new Chair to lead the learned society over the next three years.

Rose is an Associate Professor and Head of Academic Scholarship for the School of Social Sciences at Nottingham Trent University.

Rose is a long-serving and active member of the PSA and brings a wealth of academic and professional skills to the role of PSA Chair. She has served as a PSA Trustee on several occasions: from 2003-2006 and again from 2014-2020. During this time, she has led the Teaching & Learning and Schools portfolios on the PSA’s Executive Committee.

On her appointment, Rose said: “I am honoured to follow in the long line of incredibly distinguished scholars who have chaired the PSA. It is also an honour to be the first person from a post-92 university to lead the association. I am very fortunate to follow current Chair Professor Roger Awan-Scully and Vice-Chair Professor Claire Dunlop, who have done such a great job over what has been an extraordinarily challenging period.

My priorities as the new in-coming PSA Chair are to deliver a clear strategic plan for the PSA, to support and develop the work of the PSA’s Equality and Diversity Working Group, to review how the PSA can best support members and promote the study of politics, and to produce a new financial plan. I am very much looking forward to working with the association’s fantastic Chief Executive Michelle and staff team, with its wonderful board of trustees and with its increasingly diverse membership, to drive these priorities forward.”

Rose was appointed by the PSA’s Executive Committee after a competitive process. She will take up the office at the association’s Annual Assembly (AGM) in April at the PSA23 conference, Liverpool, at which point Roger and Claire will conclude their terms. Roger added: “I am delighted by the appointment of Rose Gann as the new PSA Chair. She has served the PSA with great distinction as a trustee in the past and she brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the post. I am very confident that Rose will continue to take the PSA from strength to strength – we could not possibly be in better hands.”
